Democracy, Are You There?

“One person, no vote.” -Carol Anderson
Voter suppression is destroying our democracy.

Look around and see
Turmoil and tragedy

Breathe in the scent
Of deception and despair

Feel in your bones
Corruption and collapse
Of our delicate democracy

“One person, no vote”
Writes Carol Anderson
In the land of the fear
And the home of the enslaved

And just like that

Our voices suppressed
Our liberties erased
Our society buried

Ding-dong, democracy is dead
Wake up! God damnit!
Rise and rub your eyes!
Though we’re out of time
